Hello,

Welcome to Mountain Roots Creative! We are glad you are here.

Determining the exact founding date of Mountain Roots Creative is a bit challenging because the name was adopted after our journey had already begun. While the legal establishment date is easy to pinpoint, the story starts with Todd, a skilled interior trim carpenter, who became curious about tools beyond his primary trade. His journey began with a simple desire to save $100 instead of buying a duck call, he wondered if he could make one himself.

Before long, we acquired a wood lathe and all the necessary supplies to craft calls in our garage. After some practice, it became clear that Todd's next step was to enter a duck and goose call contest. We needed a logo and an engraver to brand our calls, so I focused on creating the brand and developing the business. At the same time, Todd prepared submissions for several categories in the competition.

The calls earned Todd plaques and ribbons, but more importantly, they gave us the confidence to explore new ventures and step outside our usual routines. Although we spent over $100 to learn this lesson, it was well worth it.

Surprisingly, COVID positively changed our lives. While it may sound strange, it did. I concentrated on earning my Professional Photography Certificate of Graduation from the New York Institute of Photography, while Todd learned to use every machine we "absolutely needed." The engraver served multiple purposes: it allowed us to create earrings, business cards, bookmarks, hat patches, engraved leather items, cups, and cutting boards, to name a few. Why stop there? Our equipment purchases didn’t end with the engraver and lathe; we soon acquired not one but two CNC machines. Inlay cutting boards and fishing fly boxes began appearing on our countertops. Todd crafted handles for fishing nets, steamed wood for the nets, and created, sold, and enjoyed fishing nets. My crafting endeavors were elevated; if I could envision it, we could construct it.

“I think I want a 3D printer,” was casually mentioned before Christmas 2024. How could we stop at just one?

By now, you understand our approach. We dive in with both feet, eager to try anything once while gaining knowledge along the way. At 45, I returned to college full-time to finish what I started two decades ago.

We desire to build Mountain Roots Creative into something we can be proud of, allowing us to live simply.

Thank you for your love and support,

Amy
